ABOUT ABOUT

During a late night break-in that goes awry, two strangers discover a hidden connection to each other and the mysterious town that has taken more from them than either fully realize.

From Trey Tatum and Bridget Leak, the creative team behind 2019's ALABAMA MONSTER, comes a sleek "what-dunnit" about small towns, Bermuda triangles and the lengths people will go to recover lost things. Using a socially-distanced creation process, and filmed entirely thru internet conferencing, this play uses lights/sound/music/clever staging and elaborate props to create a vivid world that goes far-beyond the "Zoom Play."

PRESS
"That slow walk to the closet and our glimpse that Trey Tatum was alone in there was a very important step. It’s reminiscent of how a magician shows us the “Cabinet of Mystery” is empty before “Wanda the Weirdo” steps out of it. It is important that we are reminded that these two actors are alone in separate houses while performing. Why? Because with what you’re going to see in the next hour will either seem like cheating or straight up witchcraft if you didn’t.

And so the show started…

My word…"

"Directed by Bridget Leak, the production makes the most of the Zoom format to establish connection between the characters. They physically push beyond the boundaries of the frame, using props and movement. The use of lighting is creative in the Zoom setting: flashlights, lighters and background colors of changing light help set time and mood. The music and sound effects further create the world of the play, an unanticipated bonus in the Zoom setting.

In this time of COVID-19 physical distancing, the ideas of loss, recovery and preservation echo while I watch this in solo time. I am reminded of what we’ve lost and what we have found."

Praise for 2019's ALABAMA MONSTER

5 stars / 5, The Saskatoon StarPhoenix

Strap yourselves in and hang on tight. Playwright and performer Trey Tatum takes us on a wild, bumpy, spellbinding ride through the forests and swamps of coastal Alabama … and the mire of kinship.

Tatum conjures this world with nothing but a sketched out black and white map as backdrop, and the vivid imagery of his storytelling. With masterful use of language, he’ll make you feel the blaze of the bonfire, see the lick of flames and flicker of shadows, smell the fumes.
